Lifestyle mobile app templates

These apps are about an object the user keeps. A plant, a pet, a recipe, a room, a routine that is not a work task. Home is a collection of those objects, with the ones that need something today pulled out of the grid. A plant that needs water should look different from one that was watered this morning.

The detail screen is where the product becomes specific, and a generic item page will not carry it. A recipe needs ingredients and steps in order. A pet needs the next vet date and the food. A room needs the photo and the products in it. The primary action, water, cook, save, belongs on that screen, not buried in a menu.

Reminders belong on a today row or a calendar, and each one names the object. A time with no noun is a ping the user cannot place. The in-app row and the system notification should use the same line, so the tap lands on the right detail screen.

The templates are opinionated so there is something to edit. A gardening app and a recipe app should not still share a home screen when you are done. Keep the collection and the detail. Replace the photos, the nouns, and the one daily action.

Questions, answered. Everything to know before you start.

What is the home screen organizing?
Objects the user owns, with today's items separated from the rest. A garden shows plants that need care above the full grid. A recipe app can show tonight's plan above saved recipes. A grid with no today row hides the reason to open the app.
What has to be on the detail screen?
The facts needed to act. For a plant, the next water date and the light it wants. For a recipe, ingredients and steps. For a room, the photo and the products in it. Put the primary action on that screen.
How should reminders be designed?
As a row inside the app, each row naming the object and the task. A calendar of marks helps once there is more than one kind of task. The system notification can repeat that same line. A reminder that only says not to forget is easy to swipe away.
Can one template cover both pets and plants?
The structure can. The shipped home screen should not. Start from the pet template or the plant template, whichever object you have, and delete the fields that do not apply. A combined home screen reads as a demo of the category.
